Building a hypercoaster in RCT |
The Station, Testing & Tweaking
Now that you have the coaster built, it's time to add the
entrance(s), exit(s), and paths, and test the ride. If you are using a money-based scenario, remember that
hypercoasters are expensive to build, but you can charge a lot for
them.
Sky
Devil has no inversions, like most hypercoasters. Use non-looping
trains to increase excitement dramatically.
Once
the ride is built, it must be tested. This is the launched lift hill.
However, the
chain lift top keeps the speed down to 5mph at the top of the
ride.
The
train goes quickly into section 2, which is why it needs to be
wide radius curves.
OK,
maybe the ride is too long. The train is going rather slow now.
Yes,
it it too slow, as the train is about to fall back. I think
boosters are needed here. The best place for them is underground,
as they don't look good. Hmm – Iceworld tunnels perhaps.
The
first booster, set to maximum speed (also max acceleration).
Basically any flat straight track after this was suitable for
boosters.
Like
the straight between these down & up helixes,
Or
this tunnel exit, and the section where the train actually stops.
There
is also no problem with a launched lift hill from under the donut
stall.
Retesting
That
speed is better, and now the train makes it back to the station.
There is usually something you need to correct on a coaster to
make it work as planned.
See?
This is after the point where it stopped first time.
Notes
Here are a few general points to remember:
Boosters don't look good. If you use them, try to put them
underground or behind scenery.
Don't rely on brakes too much or you will have station
brakes faliures. Likewise note that lift hills can fail. Make
sure this won't cause a crash.
Take curves at a reasonable speed. If they are too fast,
intensity goes up. Too slow and it becomes boring.
Approaching
the station slowly reduces intensity on the brakes (to 5mph) and
reduces wear, which is what often causes the brakes to fail. All
that's needed now is a suitable colour scheme and a name for the
ride.
Sky
Devil may be 4ft off hypercoaster status, but I personally don't
care. It'll do for me ;) .
